How do I make flashcards to print?
Type or paste your cards, one per line, with the front and back split by a tab, an equals sign, a dash, a colon or a comma. Choose how many cards fit on a page and how your printer handles two sides, then download the PDF. Print one test sheet first, then cut along the dashed lines.
- Paste your cards, such as
hola = hello, or open a spreadsheet. - Check the list and fix any card.
- Pick cards per page and how to print.
- Download the PDF and print a test sheet.
- Print the rest and cut along the dashed lines.
How do I print double-sided flashcards so the backs line up?
Print the PDF with two-sided printing on, and match the flip setting to the one you chose here. With a long-edge flip each row of backs is printed in reverse; with a short-edge flip the rows are turned upside down. Either way each answer sits behind its own question. Print at actual size, not fit to page.
Card sizes on US Letter with half-inch margins, from the layout code:
| Cards per page | Card size |
|---|---|
| 4 | 3.75 x 4.98 in |
| 8 | 3.75 x 2.49 in |
| 9 | 2.50 x 3.32 in |
| 10 | 3.75 x 1.99 in |
What is the Leitner system?
It is a way of reviewing flashcards proposed by the science journalist Sebastian Leitner in 1972. Cards sit in numbered boxes; a card you answer right moves up a box, and a card you miss goes back to box 1. Study mode here keeps five boxes and starts with the lowest, so the hardest cards come up most.
Can flashcards be read aloud?
Yes. Press Read aloud in study mode and the browser speaks the side that is showing, using the speech voices already on your device through the Web Speech API. Which languages and voices you get depends on your browser and system, so a Spanish deck needs a Spanish voice installed for the best result.
Limits
- Text only. Cards hold words and line breaks, not pictures.
- One device. Progress is saved in this browser; export a CSV to move a deck.
- No AI card writing. You bring the list.
