How do I write a resignation letter?
Address it to your manager. In the first sentence, say you are resigning, from which position, and your last day. Thank them briefly and offer to help with the handover, then sign off. Keep it short and positive; it is not the place for complaints. The maker builds these paragraphs from your choices, and you can change any word.
- Pick a design and a tone.
- Type your name and your manager on the letter.
- Set the notice or a last day.
- Tick thanks and handover if you want them.
- Download the PDF or Word file, or Copy text for an email.
What does a two weeks notice letter look like?
It is a short resignation letter that names a last day two weeks after the date you hand it in. With 14 days of notice from October 13, 2026, the letter names October 27, 2026. Hand it in on a working day, keep a copy, and set the notice to what your contract asks.
Here is the opening the maker writes for a cashier: "Please accept this letter as formal notice that I am resigning from my position as cashier at Green Street Market. My last day of work will be October 27, 2026."
Two weeks is a common courtesy in the US, but your employment contract, union agreement or employee handbook may ask for more or less. Check it, and set the notice to match.
Should I give a reason for resigning?
You do not have to. A plain letter that states your last day is complete and professional. If you want to share a reason, such as a move or a new role, keep it to one or two neutral sentences. Pick the tone With a reason to add it, and leave out anything you would not want in your file.
Can I resign by email?
Yes, if that is how your workplace usually communicates. Press Copy text and paste the letter into an email, with a subject line such as Resignation, Your Name. You can also attach the PDF, so there is a signed, dated copy on file. Tell your manager in person or by phone first if you can.
