Create Fillable PDF

Turn any PDF into a form people can fill in on screen: draw text boxes, checkboxes, choices, dropdowns, dates and signature boxes, or let the tool find the blank lines for you. Nothing is uploaded.

Which field types can I add?

Seven kinds: text, paragraph, checkbox, choice, dropdown, date and signature boxes. Each becomes a standard PDF form field, the kind every major PDF reader understands, so nothing special is needed to fill the form in. You can mix them on one page and resize each box.

FieldUse it for
TextNames, emails, short answers
ParagraphComments and longer answers over several lines
CheckboxYes or no, “I agree”
ChoiceOne answer from a few, such as size S, M or L; buttons with the same question work together
DropdownOne answer from a longer list
DateA text box labeled for a date
SignatureAn empty box that readers such as Acrobat can sign with a digital ID

Can it find the form fields automatically?

It can suggest them. Find on page (or Find on all) looks for drawn answer lines and runs of underscores, then places text boxes on them. Treat the result as a first draft: delete boxes that do not belong, change some into checkboxes or dates, and name them. Scanned forms work too, as long as the lines are clear.

Will the form work in every PDF reader?

Text boxes, checkboxes, choices and dropdowns work in Adobe Acrobat Reader, Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and in the Files app on iPhone. Some readers show field borders differently. Date boxes accept any text, because date checking relies on scripts some readers ignore. Signing a signature box needs a reader that supports digital IDs.

Can people type in other languages?

By default the form uses Helvetica, which every reader has and which covers English and Western European letters. Tick Let people type Greek, Cyrillic and other letters to embed a full font, which adds about 700 KB to the file. It is switched on by itself when a dropdown has choices outside that range.

Limits and fixes

  • Calculations (totals that add up by themselves) are not supported.
  • Existing fields in the PDF are kept but not shown in the editor.
  • Phones: placing fields works with a finger, but a laptop and mouse are easier for long forms.
  • Locked PDFs need their password removed first with Unlock PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up, no field limit and no watermark.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Fields are added in your browser and the file stays on your device.

Can I move or resize a field?

Yes. Drag a field to move it, drag its corner to resize, or use the arrow keys for fine moves.

How do I lock the answers after filling?

Use Flatten PDF on the filled form; the answers then become part of the page.

Can I test the form before downloading?

Yes. Press Try it and every field turns into a real box you can type in, tick or pick from, with Tab moving in the saved order. Nothing typed there is saved. Press Edit fields to go back.

Can I make a field required?

Yes. Click the field and tick Required. Readers warn when a required field is empty.
